Requirements

  • Purpose The Control of Monitoring and Measuring Instruments (MMI) Procedure establishes the systems for the identification, calibration, maintenance and control of monitoring and measuring instruments for all worksites, offshore and onshore.

Description

All inspection, measuring and test instrument that is critical to the process or used for Monitoring
/measurement of Shipboard process is identified and entered on a Master Calibration Record Form.
Each item is given a unique identification number.
The identification of each item can take any of the following forms:
• Stamped on to equipment.
• Painted on to equipment.
• In the case of small items, the identification is stamped on to an area of the Item that will
not affect its operation or calibration, or a label is attached.
• Calibration labels can be used which contain the following information as minimum:
• Identification No.
• Last Test Date
• Next Test Date
The period between calibration or maintenance will be subjected to International Standards or
manufacturer's recommendations.
In general, annual calibration is mandated. The calibration can coincide with the vessel annual
Statutory Survey.
If during operation the calibration periods are found to be too long these periods can be
shortened. Equipment that needs independent certification is marked on the register.
Test Certificates will be maintained for the lifetime of the equipment. When equipment is taken out of
service for any reason the history of that equipment is retained for five years.
If MMI has failed its test and calibration has been considered unattainable, such equipment is
condemned and is taken out of service
